IDI Expands Supply Chain for Leading Home Improvement Retailer
Atlanta, Ga., December 14, 2009 – IDI, a full-service industrial real estate company, recently delivered a 465,000-square-foot build-to-suit in Columbia, SC for a leading home improvement retailer and has plans to deliver just over 650,000 million additional square feet to the client in early 2010. The completions are part of a multi-year, master development agreement for the retailer’s national supply chain expansion program that includes 12 warehouse facilities totaling more than seven million square feet in the U.S. and Mexico.
The Columbia, SC facility, located at Lexington County Industrial Park, opened in December 2009. The building will serve as a rapid deployment center for the retailer’s logistics team, which is currently in the midst of a full reconfiguration and expansion of the company’s supply chain that includes development or lease of up to 25 properties. IDI will also deliver a facility in Findlay, OH (657,600 SF) to the tenant in spring 2010.
IDI previously completed multi-channel distribution centers in Monterrey, Mexico and Mexico City, and a 100,000-square-foot transit facility in Lathrop, Calif. Between 2002 and 2008, IDI also completed a network of four import distribution centers for the client in Houston, Seattle, Lathrop, Calif. and Winchester, Va., as well as two rapid deployment centers in Valdosta, Ga. and Birmingham, Ala. Each rapid deployment center is fully-mechanized and contains state-of-the-art material handling and warehouse management systems.
In 1990, IDI recognized that massive changes to the supply chain would lead corporations to reconfigure and upgrade logistics networks to more strategically serve customers across the nation. To better serve this need, the company launched the Strategic Development Services division, which works closely with corporate real estate, supply chain and logistics executives to execute fast-track, multiple market, build-to-suit development. The team now has projects in more than 50 markets across the U.S. and Mexico.
Brian Mee, senior vice president of IDI Strategic Development Services, said “With the successful rollout of this rapid deployment center initiative, our client can now focus its attention on reconfiguring the supply chain in other areas, including bulk distribution and stocking facilities.” Mee added, “We have built a tremendous relationship with the client throughout the development of the facilities network, and will be monitoring the impact this streamlined distribution process has on the company’s bottom line as each new facility comes on-line.”
